Thieves steal TVs in front of shoppers, workers | Crime
CHICKASHA, Okla. – Two bold thieves are now in jail accused of stealing several televisions from Walmart in Chickasha.
A man casually walks out of the store with a buggy full of flat screens, like he did nothing wrong, but police said the electronics were stolen.
Surveillance video shows other shoppers walk in front of him uninterested by what would be a big buy and no workers challenged him as he strolled into the parking lot.
“It did look pretty easy for them to walk out pushing a buggy,” Chickasha Police Major Elip Moore said.
Police were able to identify the man as 23-year-old Steven Hayes.
He and a juvenile were arrested for shoplifting.
“The ability to identify somebody off of these videos is very high and if you’re in a small community like ours, somebody’s going to know who you are,” Major Moore said.
In total, police said these guys stole six TVs, walking right in and right out of the store on two separate days.
They were stolen Jan.1 and Jan. 3.
Police were able to recover all of the TVs and even though it’s a non-violent crime, police said people do pay a price.
“The people who do go in to pay are going to have to pay more to make up the loss,” he said.
Other shoppers have one thing to say to thieves who boldly walk away with stolen goods.
“Get a life. Get a job. I mean really, quit making it hard on everybody else,” shopper Roberta Newman said.
She said she hopes thieves take note from the surveillance video; cameras are watching.
